Matcha tea: how to make it and its health benefits

Matcha tea is a healthful drink rich in antioxidants, mineral salts and vitamins. The tea can improve concentration and is a powerful help durnig periods of stress.

There are different types of green tea: in fact, whereas the plant, the Camelia Sinensis, is the same, the collection period, the region and the processing method change. One of the best green tea is matcha tea:  the matcha tea doesn’t look like the other green teas that consist of leaves to be infused, matcha tea is instead a green powder that should be dissolved in water. The matcha tea powder, obtained from the best qualities of Gyokuro, one of the most valuable Japanese green tea, is drunk together with water and not filtered as it happens for green tea leaves. In this way, by drinking directly all parts of matcha tea, it is possible to obtain all the benefits. This doesn’t happen with infusion because a lot of elements that are important for our health remain on the leaves. This type of green tea contains a huge amount of antioxidants, it is rich in vitamins C, group B and K, and mineral salts such as iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and copper. Matcha tea, thanks to these features, is able to lower the sugar level and the cholesterol in blood, helps in case of stress, can improve the ability to concentrate, it has diuretic and detox properties. In addition to this, matcha tea can also help us in cancer prevention thanks to an antioxidant, contained in this tea, the EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), according to recent scientific studies.

Preparation of matcha tea: first of all it would be better to buy an organic tea, that should also be tested through analysis about the presence of heavy metals and radionuclides, that should not be found, in case of matcha tea it is even more important than other green teas because all parts of tea are drunk. Then pour a pinch of matcha tea powder in a cup of water, that can be hot, but do not exceed the 60°, or cold, but in this last case the tea should be of high quality or it will not dissolve. Then, matcha tea contains caffeine, so avoid drinking it in the evening.
